We’re Disabled and Queer.

Itch.io and the Payment Processors Are Starving Us.

Do you like reading stories? Do you like playing video games?Do you like to choose? Then you need to hear this.We are a collective of disabled and queer writers who depend on selling our writing in order to eat and pay the rent.Following Queer Pride, we decided to celebrate Disability Pride by releasing two bundles on Itch.io starting Friday the 25th of July.

Last night, Itch.io stuffed our work in the closet.

We’ve heard that Itch.io was forced to do this in response to pressure from the Payment Processors, who were forced to do this by a conservative pressure group. We’ve heard that Itch.io had no choice but to do this without warning. We’ve heard that this is why payments to certain queer creators are being withheld.

We think this is bullshit.

At least one of us has been stuck for multiple weeks waiting on their unashamedly queer book being indexed;Valve Corporation’s Steam (who’ve had the same problem) announced they were under pressure weeks ago; And, at the end of the day?If everyone blames the next guy, the conservative pressure group at the end of the chain won’t care, and no one will be held accountable.

Make no mistake: the end goal of Fascism is to decide what you get to read and watch.

This is only the first step. Fascists want to make it impossible for minorities to tell their stories — even without sex. And they won’t stop there, because they want to force everyone to conform.Frankly? To hell with that. And to hell with them.Itch.io lets creators choose the amount from each sale that’s donated to cover operating costs. We have all set our revenue share to 0% in protest, which means:

Every sale of our bundles will cost Itch.io money.

Do you want us to have food to eat?

Do you think what Itch.io is doing is wrong?

Do you want to take a stand?
